This is what a friend of mine is playing: Genex Controller 2 Aqua Spirit Alantean Heavy Infantry 2 Alantean Marksman Genex Undine 3 Mermail Abyssgunde 3 Mermail Abysslinde Mermail Abyssmegalo Mermail Abyssocea 3 Mermail Abysspike 3 Mermail Abyssteus 2 Mermail Abyssturge Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls Dark Hole 3 Mystical Space Typhoon 3 Abvyss Sphere Bottomless Trap Hole Compulsory Evacuation Device 2 Phoenix Wing Wind Blast 3 Reckless Greed Solemn Warning Torrential Tribute Black Rose Dragon Crimson Blader Abyss Dweller Bahamut Shark Evilswarm Exciton Knight 2 Leviair the Sea Dragon Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack Mechquipped Angineer Mermail Abyssgaios 2 Mermail Abysstrite 2 Number 101: Silent Honor ARK Number 11: Big Eye So the Hoban build without Upstarts... I do like it. I wouldnt play dual Leviar though. The deck is much better off making Rank 4 with double Dweller and something better than Mechquipped. All that is just preference tho. Definitely going to work with it.

There's quite a few differences over Hoban's deck, but if I were to play Mermails that's probably where I'd start.

It's not so much the deck choices as the flow of play, the type of focuses. I use the "Hoban Build" term rather loosely.
As I said, going to fool around with this tonight.

I really wanna know how skill drain mermails would do..any ideas? Horribly. Skill drain stops teus pike and undine. However you should look at Dna surgery main decked for more insanity.

Ok, do you have a dna build? It's just running an Aqua Spirit version of the deck with DNA

Friend of mine has enjoyed using Leo in the extra of his Undine build. Turns "dead Controllers" into Leo using any of the many level 7 SS monsters.

Friend of mine has enjoyed using Leo in the extra of his Undine build. Turns "dead Controllers" into Leo using any of the many level 7 SS monsters. That seems to be the preferred method, at least from my experience. I just dropped the Undine engine altogether because I don't play enough 7's to make that worth while.

If I remember your build right you use 1 less 7 than he does.

Makes all the difference, IMO.
With one less Megalo I'm not special summoning them as often, and then Teus becomes my ocea fodder more often than not. It just isn't worthwhile in my build.

You did still have Tidal though right? That 1 level 7 makes it a possibility at anytime once its in hand/grave.

I more or less use tidal for rank 7. But, yes you're right. Still don't think the undone engine would really be worth the draws when I could be drawing other things that present more combos inherently.
That's basically where this deck is at. Without 3 dragons the Atlantans suite is sort of dead often. Without 3 Tidal it's hard to justify more discard fodder. Then Undine gets lost in the mix unless you build around it. So, you have two polarizing views about the deck. It's why Fire Fists out top it. Less difference between builds. Very standard, much consistency which Mermails have a hard time replicating.

Fire Fist players also look for more consistency since they can't outpace Mermails. Because of the speed Mermails have the player base leans more towards their own preferences in the deck. If there was 1 consistent build Mermails would probably be doing better overall.
