That... makes for an interesting 1st turn. I recently did a bit of organization of my cards (because it was all laid out when I cleared my room of almost everything trying to find some YGO cards). I had some pretty neat stuff I forgot I have. Last set I've picked up though was Plasma Freeze I think? The one where Deoxys EX comes in (I pulled one myself, alongside 2-3 Ghetsis, one of which was FA, and the box also came with GOLD Max Potion. Needless to say, that box was awesome).
Right now though, I'm a bit addicted to Pokemon Showdown, so I guess I'll not be playing the cards just yet, though interest in Pokemon in general has gone up, so it's very likely I'll look into this game again.

If I am to pick up the Poke TCG I just will be playing with decks I already have with my older cards.

I would probably do the same at first. I will eventually want to look into the new set stuff, but won't be gung-ho about acquiring them asap unless I can afford it and I think it's needed.

Nah I just run the deck I have and be happy with that. You can build some damn near terrifying decks by combining cards across the generations.
1 card I wouldn't mind more copies of is the Neo Discovery Eevee, that cards pokepower was awesome. Being able to search an eeveelution matching the energy you attached to it.
Fossil Egg would be another card, it would allows me to go after the newer fossil pokes.

Is this the place to talk about everything of pokemon battling? Ragda told me about it.

This is the TCG thread about Pokemon. There's a VG (Video Game) thread elsewhere.

So I been working on a deck for pokemon lately and finally finished it. It's basically the Fairy Toolbox without the tool box I call it "Elton John" anyway here goes:
4 Xerneas 2 Xerneas EX 2 Mewtwo EX 1-1 Slurpuff 2-2 aromatisse
2 fairy Garden 2 N 3 Professor Juniper 2 Roller Skate 3 Professor's Letter 2 Energy Retrieval 2 Ultra Ball 3 Great Ball 2 Skyla 2 Switch 2 Pokemon Catcher 2 Evosoda 1 Tool Scrapper 3 Tierno 2 Max Revive
13 fairy Energy
So here is what the deck does, Early on you want to use Xerneas' Geomancy attack to get energy on benched pokemon especially Mewtwo EX and Xerneas EX. Fairy Garden is a stadium that allows free retreat for pokemon with Fairy energy. Aromatisse makes sure energy gets to other pokemon with its ability, which allows you to move Fairy energy around to. Slurpuff prevents status conditions on pokemon with Fairy energy. Mewtwo EX has an attack called X ball that does 20 damage for each energy attached to it and the opponent's active pokemon, and by the way X-Ball costs 2 colorless making Mewtwo EX deadly. Xerneas EX has a highly damaging attack, but it cannot use it on the next turn it can attack. So If all else fails swapping mewtwo ex and Xerneas Ex around creates a deadly duo of high damage.

Aromatisse reminds me of the original base set Venusaur ability.
Mewtwo always gets the good attacks doesn't he?

Mewtwo Ex is just amazing and no I cant say mewtwo always does, there have been a few awful mewtwo cards. This deck is fairly cheap to build. I built this from 3 theme decks and 4 tin promos. To build completely from scratch it costs roughly $130 and thats if you do not buy the tin promos as singles or like in my case have a friend kind enough to send you his extras. the promos range for singles anywhere from $8 each to 14 each. To build this you need 2 Resilient life theme decks and 1 Red Genesect theme deck from the red genesect collection.

If I ever decide to start building deck IRL again for this I might start with this.
Then again I might track down more copies of the Neo Discovery Eevee and get the eeveelution box set.

There are better eevees out now than what was in Neo Discovery, and if you wanna play competitively you definitely need newer cards. Right now in pokemon EXs rule the playing field even anti-ex decks run one or two EXs

Right now in pokemon EXs rule the playing field even anti-ex decks run one or two EXs Really there are better eevees that allow you to search for a an eeveelution whenever you attach and energy to them. Would like to see them. I don't plan on being competitive, plus I am pretty sure I am too old for the competitive scene in the pkmn tcg. So I build the decks the way I want to build them using the cards I want to use.

Actually they have competition for older players for pokemon now. And yeah there are eevees who can evolve for no energy as an attack. Also if you wanna play unlimited format pokemon with eevees, use broken time space stadium it allows you to evolve pokemon the turn they are played or even on first turn. The only bad thing about eeveelution decks is that you can only run 4 eevees no matter the set. If you're gonna run eevee run 2 of the searching eevee and 2 of the one i just mentioned.

I will need to look into some of those others cards.

If you're gonna use older cards also look into the Uxie from Diamond and pearl set Legends Awakened. Its an amazing card and definitely worth using. A lot of really good stuff has entered into the game since pacific took over from Wizards of the coast. You may also wanna consider Suicune from the plasma sets or Bouffalant with the bouffer ability because EXs will still pop up in unlimited format play.
