Tidal can help yard some monsters too!

Very true, while also being a recurring level 7 with solid attack power.

Is barrier statue of the torrent good against any meta decks at the moment?

It's okay. The downside of it is with HAT being a big deck rather than Special Summon Spam.x.dek it doesn't do as much as it would have a format ago. Also, your opponent can still resolve Fire Hand since it summons a Water attributed Ice Hand.

Definitely not HATs, probably would say dragon rulers only at the moment. Bujins sit on yamato, geargia sit on geargiarmor and continue to get pluses.

Yeah, pretty much.
Would have been much better last format with Rulers being much more widely used.

It worked ok, but due to the power of dragon rulers once they get through barrier, the flooding will occur.

Problem yet good thing about penguin is there is not set built to play them from making them both unpredictable and a pioneer theme to try someone's luck on.

I'm a VERY recent Penguin convert, but a long-time WATER fan. Tin Goldfish into Wind-Up Shark(s) is a great play, and when Salvage can give you multiple Shark or Goldfish plays, there's something good to be done with it. Keep in mind that Tin Goldfish is a Chain Summoning-friendly effect, meaning Kagetokage plus Salvage becomes a consistent Rank 4/5 option. WATER decks have a lot of wonderful support, but my personal favorite is Different Dimension Deepsea Trench. It's way too easy to trigger this thing for a plus, and it grants you extra access to monsters like Ice Queen that are exceedingly hard to take advantage of otherwise!

Darn I can't believe I doubleposted. Different dimension deepsea Trench is strange. How do you get the better end of the deal with that card when its destroyed?

You use stuff like Double Cyclone and Storm (heck, even Artifact Ignition!) that can trigger it while taking something of the opponent's down with it. I have a deckbuilding "framework" that exploits such cards. I like to build decks that way, and I have to say that it really fits right in.
All you need in order to start is a suitable WATER monster in the hand or the grave. Anything that dumps WATERs in the grave can put one where you need it if you want to take that route, and anything that searches WATERs from the deck supports it. I love it with those high-Level Ice Barriers, but as I said, there are many options. I have two or three different WATER decks that use Trench right now, even!

That kind of double-post is ok, it's what's called a "bump" if your two posts are at least 12 hours apart, and I'm pretty sure they're far enough apart.
As for Trench, you can play the likes of Double Cyclone to help trigger it, or passive stuff like Malevolent Catastrophe. Dump high level WATER monsters and you can be swimming in them later, pun intended. Scrap Dragon can help too, and I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to trigger this card.
EDIT: lol got ninja'd by a Ninja, didn't see BFG's post when I posted mine.

Malevolent Catastrophe's nice, but (expletive deleted) Wiretap makes it much less safe. I don't even use it anymore... As for getting ninja'd, it feels good to do that to someone. I feel like I'm representing my team well there.

It's what I get for posting well after opening the page. You were like 11 minutes early.
Anyways, my current water project is NimbleFish with a splash of SlushyPoseidra. It's kinda fun, and gives the Nimbles an ooomph they lack sometimes.

Slushy? That's a whole extra can of worms right there... I love to hate that card. It doesn't really matter right now, though. As long as Debunk and Soul Drain are so necessary in the meta, Slushy gets held down as well!
