You weren't destroying them for entertainment's sake. While you were amused by it regardless, it is what you are told to do by your superiors and thus you are effectively being paid to do so, though I'd still like to think that people could've still benefited from the finished products more so than the destroyed ones.
I agree. But there is so much red tape when it comes to donating such items that the previous store manager rarely did it. I don't think the current one knows its an option.

Well, my old manager really pissed me off yesterday. He paged me for a carry out (which I'm not suppose to do any more) in the last few minutes of my shift in front of my new manager and my new district manager who made a trip from New York to meet me. I ignored the page as I am suppose to and continued the meeting, then proceeded to complete my end of day tasks. From there I had to rush to punch out to avoid a late punch (over 5 minutes and I get in trouble).
So I'm off the clock and going into the office to turn in my gun and guess whose in there? Yup, my old manager. And he proceeds to start yelling at me for my conduct. I tried to calmly explain the situation and he told me he didn't care who I was with or what I was doing, that I had to respond to his page. I tried, still retaining my cool, to explain that I'm part of LP now and must remain at my post unless the job dictates that I be elsewhere. To which he responded that I'm still part of Kmart and thus must follow the chain of command.
Now here's where he's completely wrong. 1) LP has it's own separate chain of command. 2) Store management has little say when it comes to LP. 3) When an associate, lead or manager is with any district/corporate manager who is in for a specific meeting they are not to be bothered. 4) A manager cannot yell at an associate if they are off the clock.
I'm cutting him some slack this time, I just notified a manager who happened to in the office that I was off the clock. Next time though I'm contacting the associate hotline. It happens a third time and I'll go straight to the department of labor.
