So Daylight savings time sucks. Got ~4 hours sleep before having to get up and pick up riders on the way to Colorado Springs for the Regional. Left town around 6am with everyone, arrived around 8:20am. Took almost an hour off the estimated drive time. Event was scheduled to start at 10am. I got the Alucard I needed in time and turned in list.
First round didn't get started until almost noon, lunch would be after round 3. 256 people, and 8 rounds. Top 32 would get invites.
Round 1 vs Gravekeepers table 32
Horrid match up. Worse player. Not a bad person, just a poor player. 2-0'd him. Not sure if he even had Tombs, but he used Oracle and didn't know some basic rulings.
1-0
Only 2 people at this tourney I didn't want to see in round 2; Neo, because that has become a common occurrence between us, and Johnny Nagel.
Round 2 Johnny Nagel and his Gravekeeper's table 19
Last time I played him was 2 years ago, same regional in Round 3 mirror match with Dino Rabbits. He beat me 2-1.
He won the die roll and went first, first thing he did was drop Necrovally. : And now I knew what I was playing. :
G1 was entirely 1 sided, I never got any damage in. G2 was pretty much the opposite, he dealt me 400 but that gave me a third dark in grave and DAD dropped to just start running over everything he put down. G3 was intense and I got him to burn through all 3 Necrovalley thanks to him using #66 effect on his second, so I forced him to send it to protect 66. He activated the 3rd and Key'd it in again, just to attack with a SS'd Commandant into my set Fossil Dyna. Necro went down so he could peg me for another 2500, set another card he killed it and hit me for 800 leaving me at 2500. That gave me my 3rd dark, DAD dropped and it became academic without him having any more Necros.
Revenge win is sweet. :\m/:
2-0
Round 3 versus Bujins table 14
Totally good with this match up. G1 was quick, he didn't know what to do against my main deck tech and wasn't used to the Inzektor match. G2 he was able to get into Susanowo and a Tsukyomi that milled 5 (fucking 5!) Buijin cards and became a 3k beater with protection for his Bujin monsters. I never touched him this turn, I put this up to poor hand. G3 he got in a hit with Hare after I Book'd Yamato so he couldn't Xyz summon, and from there Safe Zone and Centipede with Hornet just popped and setup the rest of the game for my win.
3-0 (holy shit I've never done this well at a regional)
Lunch, went and got Popeye's Chicken (mmmmm.... drool). Got food and headed back, got there 5 minutes til next round was paired. Still hadn't eaten yet. Sat down across a friend from Greeley started match and had to stop for repairing thanks to drops causing some to be paired way down. This would have been against Harpies at table 6.
Round 4 Joey Chou Jr. and +1 Fire Fists table 9
...... shit. Knew this would happen eventually though. I just was outclassed, outmatched, and out drawn. Any Inzektor play got Veiler'd or Warning'd, I never touched his LP and match was over in 15 minutes. This was disappointing but at least I had time to eat now.
3-1
Round 5 guy named Brandon, +1 FF at table 35
This guy wasn't as good as Joey, but still had a very solid deck. I was able to take G1 and put up a fight in G2 and 3 but that is a really OP deck. Its fucking ridiculous.
3-2
Round 6 at table 52
Don't know what I played since the guy never showed. Player on my right had the same thing happen.
4-2
Round 7 vs Mermails at table 16
Controled G1 and just kept up the pressure. G2 he was hitting hard, I came back and cleared it using #61. Looking at my hand I was going to be able to come back next turn after he cleared Volc, but I drew and he flipped Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror. My hand had 6 dark monsters. :@: G3 I went first didn't do much except summoned Centipede and equipped it with a Hornet and Zektkaliber. He set 3 back row and passed, I drew and he flipped Shadow again. I popped it with Hornet since it is treated as a spell then searched D-Fly. Used Cent again on another set back row, searched again. From here I went off, ended with Alucard, #17 with 2500, Dragonfly with 2400, and Centipede with 2400.
This guy bitched about how whoever wins the dice roll wins the match. He was just pissed he lost to Inzektors and most likely his chance at top 32.
5-2 (fuck! I could actually make top)
Round 8 Bronson Miller and Karakuri Geargia
I have never had to deal with Geargia before. They have there own version of Debris Dragon though and it gets from hand or grave as long as it is a Geargia Monster. That is stupid powerful. G1 was a little back and forth until he cleared field and hit me with Scrap Dragon, Bureido, and Burei for game. I totally misplayed by not using my set Safe Zone when he Scrapped my Centipede. :
G2 was so 1 sided, he Fiendish Chained both of my attempts at Centipede plays. I was sitting on one of them Zone'd and blocking Burei, Bureido, Stardust and Gigant X. Summoned #101 to steal Stardust and bait him into attacking so I could use the set Mirror Force I put down before he got out Stardust. Turns out his 3rd set card was a 7Tools so it wouldn't have even mattered if he didn't go into a Soul of the Silver Mountain and lock down the Force. He cleared away the monster and brought me down to 2k LP, I drew Vanity's Emptiness so I lost.
5-3
All good games/players except for the Round 7 Mermail guy.
So my final standings-
Great day! Got a revenge win against a pro player using what I thought was going to be my worst match up, little did I know that was actually FF.
Did quite a few trades too:
My second and third brd, valued at 28 for both, for a 101.
Bought the exciton guy from locals pulled for 60.
Traded the 101 for a marshalleaf, #8, and German brd.
Marshalleaf for an armades.
Lead yoke for a Leo.
Gk priestess for Leo, burst rebirth, archfiend cavalry, mewfuille.
Idr for a Mary.
Bought a Mary from another locals guy for 5.
Ulti tsukyomi and 2 doomcal for 3 ultra caius.
2 iron call and 2 that idr for 2 archfiend emperor rares, ghost for, and secret bth.
3 dt infernity archfiend for ultimate chidori.
And a lot of random including 3 ghost mobius and an ultra safe zone for ultimate brd and Ptolemy m7.
